The Van Horne Mansion

As I sit here having a cup of coffee, and collecting my thoughts, I realize that I am a crazy man. Yesterday I was supposed to be in Buffalo wrapping a job, but good times and enhancement agents put that plan in the crapper. Now I could drop the old adages like when life gives you lemons, but screw that. Oh I did make my own brand of lemonade but I will call it a big tall glass of Van Horne.

Here is a little info on this landmark : The Van Horn Mansion was built by Judge James Van Horn in 1823. It is the site of the Town of Newfane's first town meeting, April 6, 1824. The name for the Town of Newfane is believed to be chosen by the town Postmaster. Wikipedia.

VAN HORN VINTAGE (1 of 1)VAN HORN VINTAGE (1 of 1)THE HISTORIC VAN HORN MANSION So for this shot, here is what I did. I sized it up and decided just where I wanted to capture the frame. Wanting to create something different than some of the normal shots you see on the net I went for a low perspective. My carcass was on the ground and I put on a wide angle lens. I framed it at roughly 18mm and captured 3 bracketed images. That's right it is a HDR composition. If I wouldn't have told you, you would have never known. PHOTOGRAPHERS ARROGANCE INSERTED HERE, {Yeah i'm really good at that method}. So at iso 400 I shot these pics and then used lightroom to merge and do the basic edit. Then the magic started. I finished my vibrant colorful HDR image and decided that I wanted a vintage look. It was converted to black and white and I used Nikon software to add a border and classic copper color effect. Now here was the tricky part. The resolution on this frame was so  tack I felt that adding just a touch of grain would give this shot the vintage look I wanted.

Opinions may vary but I have the shot I wanted. Not to mention I also came away with a lot of bites from ants. As my carcass lied on the ground, I was lunch for those nasty little bastards. Not the first time, and it wont be the last.

Did I mention I hate ants.
