Medina, NYHistoric Village of Medina Nice shot right? Well by all accounts, this was one of my post popular images on facebook. Yes it's the Village of Medina during the holiday season. Here is the thing. I always had this mid set of giving back but over the last two weeks I had to stop and ask myself. Give Back? Really? So the last several years I have spent a ton of time lugging equipment down to Medina, New york photographing the sights and sounds of the annual Christmas celebration. For whatever reason I always gave the town my best and I did it for free. This last year however we asked for a small fee for the work my team and I put in, and it was agreed that the two entities that put this event on would split my tiny fee. Ok great, but guess which one has decided to screw me. All I can say is I am not sure how it works in this beautiful town but as a rule when you or any service provides an invoice otherwise known as a bill, you pay the bill. Not here I guess. In short I would suggest residents ask for a voucher before paying a water bill or a tax bill because the way I see it, What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
In short, several things to consider, Copyright laws and the theft of intellectual property is the future of things and although some may feel I am being a jerk about this, in my defense, I can tell you that when you work your ass off for peanuts for a town, that has never really supported my business it kind of puts you in a sour mood. What even amazes me more is the fact that I am the sucker that gave this event my all, when other photographers who were supported deserted this event and community. Sure, I will be the jerk.
Yeah it hurts, but yet again the old saying "Once Bitten Twice Shy"
August, September is closer that you think.
Now I'm Done.
